Preparaciones de Navidad. Christmas Preparations.

Mucho ha pasado en esta semana. El Ken terminó sus examenes y empezó sus vacaciones. La Navidad se acerca y estamos preparandonos para pasarlo bien. La Claudia está empezando a tener éxito en su busca de trabajo.

A lot has happened this week. Ken finished his exams and started his winter break. Christmas is getting closer and we're preparing ourselves to have a good time. Claudia has started to have some success with her job search.

La semana pasada salimos con nuestros vecinos de un piso de arriba a comer. Después sus amigos nos invitaron a su casa para tomar algunos traguitos. En la entrada del edificio hubo un microondas que tenía un letrero que decía "gratís". Nosotros pensamos que valía la pena ver si funcionaba. Era más o menos limpio y parecía más o menos nuevo. La llevamos a la casa, la Claudia la limpió, y funciona. Ademas, lo pasamos superbien con los vecinos y sus amigos.

Last week we went out to eat with our neighbors from one floor up. After, their friends invited us to their house to have some drinks. In the lobby of their building there was a microwave with a sign that said "free". We thought that it was worth taking to see if it worked. It was more or less clean and appeared more or less new. We brought it home, Claudia cleaned it, and it worked. Also, we had a really good time with our neighbors and their friends.


En el fin de semana teníamos planeado un asado para celebrar el fin de las clases del Ken pero hubo un problema. Lluvió por dos días seguidos y no fue posible usar la parilla. Igual, la Claudia hizo una carne al horno y los acompañamientos del asado.

This past weekend, we had planned a BBQ to celebrate the end of Ken's classes but there was a problem. It rained for two days straight and it wasn't possible to use the grill. In any case, Claudia cooked the meat in the oven and made all of the normal side dishes.

El lunes llegaron las decoraciones de Ken para el arbol de navidad (gracias a la mama y el papa de Ken) y pusimos más cosas en el arbol. Tambien compramos pelotitas para poner. Ahora, el arbol está lleno y casi se va a caer del peso de todo.

On monday, Ken's ornaments arrived for the Christmas tree(Thanks Mom and Dad!) and we put more things on the tree. We also bought some bulbs to put on it. Now, the tree is full and leaning towards one side because of the weight of everything.







Como es tradición en muchas partes, vamos a tener tragos especiales de navidad. En Estados Unidos hay algo que se llama "egg nog". Es algo parecido a cola de mono pero está hecho de huevo, leche, azucar y ron. Después, vamos a hacer cola de mono. El egg nog es superrico y más o menos facil de hacer. El Ken quemó la leche la primera vez y el egg nog fue asqueroso pero la segunda vez le quedó bien. Vamos a estar tomando esto por dos semanas por lo menos.

Because it is tradition in many places, we are going to have some special drinks for Christmas. In the US, there is one called "egg nog". It's something like the Chilean drink Cola de Mono or Monkey's Tail but it's made with eggs, milk, sugar, and rum. Cola de Mono has milk, cinnamon, coffee, cloves, pisco, and some other things. Egg nog is really good and more or less easy to make. Ken burned the milk the first time and the egg nog was really gross but the second time it came out well. We're going to be drinking it for at least the next two weeks.


Tenemos más decoraciones en la casa que Claudia trajo de Chile. Tambien, ella está haciendo un mantel para la cena de Navidad y está quedando muy bien.

We have more decorations in the house that Claudia brought from Chile. Also, she is making a table cloth for Christmas dinner and it's coming out very well.




La comida y el copete están listos y tenemos harta harina, azucar, huevos y todo para hacer muchas galletas y tragos.

The food and liquor are all set and we have lots of flour, sugar, eggs, and other stuff to make lots of cookies and drinks.
